Air Asia Uniform Could “Arouse Passengers”

Is the Air Asia uniform too sexy?

AirAsia and FireFly are two airlines that operate across Malaysia and are coming under scrutiny after two MPs stated that the uniforms worn by their flight stewardesses are too sexy and are not appropriate for the Islam religion.

Stewardesses who work for AirAsia, wear uniforms that are all red, and those who work for Firefly wear uniforms that are all bright orange in colour.

The topic was brought up on Monday during a meeting of parliament, where poloticians were discussing motifications that they plan to propose to the Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) bill.

Both MPs who addressed the issue share the opinion that in compliance with Islam, the uniforms that stewardesses wear are too “body hugging” and “revealing.”

Passengers could get aroused

Speaking in parliament, Datuk Abdullah Mat Yasim stated that the uniforms worn by the Stewardesses are “eye-catching” and “can arouse passengers.”

“The Malaysian Aviation Commission (MAVCOM) must really look into this,” he stated.

“My wife is worried whenever I fly alone on Malindo or AirAsia,” stated fellow lawmaker Datuk Megat Zulkarnain, who is in agreement when it comes to the issue of the uniforms being too “sexy.” “This is a real hassle for me.”

Zulkarnain thinks that it would be in the best interest of many if the design of the uniforms was altered.

The assembly’s deputy president Abdul Halim Abd Samad praised Datuk Abdullah for speaking out on the sensitive issue.

He said: “This is a good topic that many people can relate to as they always take flights.”

Malindo comes under scrutiny over hiring practice

From the Malindo Twitter feed: “WE ARE HIRING! If you have a passion for aviation, come join us and be part of our growing family!”

Malindo have come under the gun this year for their interview practices, in which candidates are told to strip down to their underwear.

This obviously has had a huge negatave reaction, due to the nature of the Islam religion, however the company actually stepped up and released a statement, defending their interviewing practice.

“grooming checks” were a part of a normal recruiting procedure, conducted by “female supervisors in a professional manner.”

From the firefly Twitter feed, it is pretty clear that the company is using the looks of their stewardesses as a selling point.

From the Firefly Twitter feed: “Select and LIKE your most friendly and crushworthy Firefly cabin crew from our FB album! Photo with most likes will be crowned as Firefly’s Orange Crush of The Year!
Voting starts today until 5th December 2017.”

Not the first time

This is the second time in the past two weeks that this issue has been brought up in parliament.

Last week Senator Hanafi Mamat from Kelantan stated that all flight attendants who work for the two companies should wear “syariah-compliant” uniforms because Malaysia is an Islamic country.

He stated that tourists might get the wrong impression when it comes to the Islam religion if the uniforms worn by flight attendants are too revealing.
