NASA just revealed, according to CNN, that meteorites could strike the moon and cause bursts of water to shoot from the ground into space.
This has been revealed by a new study that has been announced by NASA which challenged the present perceptions of the moon that scientists have.
Some micro-meteorites collide with the moon at really high speeds and send shock waves that are reverberating through the surface of the moon.
They need to penetrate just a few inches in order to stir up deposits of water, and the high energy of the collision will convert the molecules into water vapors.
These will spurt out into space, and most of the molecules will dissipate into the thin atmosphere around the moon and others will settle back on the ground, according to the study.
These brand new details are addressed in a study that has just been published in Nature Geoscience by scientists from NASA, Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Maryland-Baltimore County.
