Neuralink Brain-Machine Interface Might Not Be As Safe As Elon Musk Said

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has announced that soon enough we will be able to access his Neuralink brain-machine interface. The direct cortical interface, Neuralink, might give people the ability to reach higher levels of cognition, according to cavalier billionaire Musk, this way mankind is also able to compete with the impending Artificial Intelligence (AI). However, we received a warning from an expert saying that Neuralink and similar technology that the US military is building might even have the potential for abuse.

Elon Musk himself has also warned that humanity might also be outnumbered by the AI robots what one day might even rule. Security will become even a more serious problem, according to a fellow and distinguished inventor of Rambus, Steven Woo. AI could even become “an immortal dictator from which we could never escape” as the SpaceX founder even described.

However, the Neuralink project which he is seeking for includes a needle-like device being inserted into the skull of a person resulting in a similar threat. Even though Neuralink could have good potential, the significance of the risks is still there according to the fellow and distinguished inventor of Rambus, Steven Woo.

He said that the human brain is both complex and elegant and it has the capability to store incredible amounts of data and massively parallel computation all at extremely low power. “But the body is relatively slow in terms of its ability to move data between the brain and the outside world. Neuralink offers the potential to move data ‘at the speed of thought,’ breaking physical bottlenecks associated with our eyes, ears, hands, and mouths.”

While there are a lot of mind-boggling possibilities, outside of Neuralink’s goals there are some fundamental technology hurdles that will need to be addressed to make this a reality.
