There is a diet that has recently become quite popular – the super carb diet. Let’s take a look at what this diet is about and what some of its benefits are.
What is the super carb diet?
This diet was created by Bob Harper, who is a celebrity trainer. There is even a New York Times best-seller that this fitness guru wrote about the diet, called “The Super Carb Diet: Shed Pounds, Build Strength, Eat Real Food”. Harper explains in his book how he created the diet, saying that he needed to have a diet that was high in nutrients and that could help him maintain his weight, while providing him with the energy he needed to recover. The diet includes all macronutrients: carbs, fats and proteins.
But Harper is not the only one talking about it, as it seems that many other experts also have positive things to say about this increasingly popular diet. For example, Beth Warren, a registered dietitian nutritionist, mentioned that it’s good to have such a diet plan that “celebrates all forms of quality carbohydrates amongst an otherwise balanced diet.”
Women’s Health says that the super carb diet is the opposite of the keto diet
The keto diet is a high fat, low carb diet. Even though both diets are helpful for people who want to lose some weight or to maintain their current weight, the super carb diet is different from the former one because it advocates carbohydrate consumption and it also includes all the major food groups on a day-to-day basis. Harper believes that the macronutrient breakdown should be as follows: 40 percent proteins, 30 percent fats and 30 percent carbohydrates. This means that for an average 2,000 calorie diet, the daily need for carbohydrates would vary from 225 to 325 grams of carbohydrates, depending on the person. This diet also suggests that we should consume most of the carbs in the first part of the day, in order for the body to have energy for the whole day.
